About Deanna Elaine Schultz

A Brief Biography

An award-winning, multilingual journalist for more than 15 years, Deanna Schultz has now diversified her skill set through expansion into the fitness industry. She is a National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) Certified Personal Trainer, a Certified Prime of Life Yoga® Teacher, is trained in the Yoga & Healing Sciences, is a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT-200) with the National Yoga Alliance (YA), is yoga4cancer trained, and is currently studying to become a Yoga Therapist.

A few years ago, with the help of her Personal Trainer, Deanna lost 75 pounds; becoming fit, and ready for a battle she did not yet know was coming. Shortly after her weight loss, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Her fitness, determination, and the support she received were her lifelines. As a breast cancer survivor, Deanna now sees food and exercise as medicine, crediting restorative yoga, pranayama, and meditation, in addition to specialized resistance training, as vital to her recovery process.

Deanna states, “Personally Yoga therapy has enhanced my life physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. During my healing journey from breast cancer, specialized restorative yoga - taught by yoga therapists - was one of the methods used to help me recover my range of motion and upper body strength. This linked with specialized breathing techniques, significantly reduced my anxiety and stress, and gave me back my positive sense of self as a woman. I was able to recognize that part of my journey was dealing with self-acceptance and self-love after needing to get reacquainted with my new body.”

Deanna also credits being a participant in the Loyola Marymount University's IMPAACT (Improving Physical Activity After Cancer Treatment) study helped her to regain flexibility and strength. As she states in this article, “The benefits of the study went beyond the physical. For me it became more than just a regular program. It was a place I could go and feel comfortable while I was recovering with others in a similar situation.”
Weight loss, fitness and healing are journeys that Deanna continues to successfully traverse, and that have transformed her life path. She is now a passionate advocate of healing and restoration through fitness and healthy lifestyles.

As a Journalist, Personal Trainer and Yoga Teacher, Deanna hopes to impact the lives of others through education and awareness, and by helping them achieve their own fitness goals; including weight loss, which she believes is a journey that can be both empowering and transformational. She teaches privately and at studios.
